Ports Beat JetHawks 18-2 in Rematch of 2008 Cal League Championship Series
Ports set a season high for runs scored

(STOCKTON, CA) – Perhaps reinvigorated by memories of their California League Championship series win over the JetHawks in 2008, the Stockton Ports turned in their best offensive performance of the season Sunday night at the JetHawks expense. They scored ten runs over the first two innings then ran away for an 18-2 win. The JetHawks fall into a tie for second place in the second half in the Southern Division.

It looked like the JetHawks were going to establish control early. Brandon Barnes doubled to start the game and scored on a passed ball. Lancaster proceeded to load the bases on a hit batter and two errors by Ports pitcher Ben Hornbeck. But Hornbeck recovered to strike out two bases and strand the JetHawks runners.

Stockton took control after that. They scored ten runs over the first two innings, driving Lancaster starter Jack Tilghman out of the game. They continued to pile up runs in numbers the Ports haven’t seen this year, tallying 11 times off the JetHawks bullpen to score a season high 18 runs.

The JetHawks will try to bounce back Monday night against the Ports. Bryan Hallberg (3-2) make a spot start for Lancaster against Stockton hurler Carlos Hernandez (2-4). The game will begin at 7:05 with the radio broadcast carried live on Magic 1340 AM and online at JetHawks.com.

The JetHawks return home Wednesday, July 1 for a three-game series against the Lake Elsinore Storm that will include the club’s annual Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks show taking place Friday, July 3.
