Astros Assistant General Manager Ricky Bennett to Appear on Clubhouse Show

(LANCASTER, CA) – Wednesday will be a fun day for fans that follow the Lancaster JetHawks in person and through the JetHawks radio broadcasts. Longtime Daily News sports media columnist Tom Hoffarth will step away from his role as a critic to make his play-by-play debut during Wednesday’s 11 AM game against the San Jose Giants. Later on the Clubhouse Show, special guests will include Astros Assistant GM and Director of Player Development Ricky Bennett.

Hoffarth has been writing about sports media in Los Angeles for more than 20 years. Known for his columns and popular blog “Off the Wall” with the Daily News, Hoffarth has covered the greatest broadcasters in Los Angeles history, including the legendary Hall of Fame threesome of Vin Scully (Dodgers), Chick Hearn (Lakers), and Bob Miller (Kings). Hoffarth’s annual rankings of the top sportscasters in Los Angeles are a must-read for industry insiders each year.

His play-by-play debut is a moment that, as Hoffarth says, “…could be used against me by every broadcaster I’ve wronged in the last 20-plus years of writing the media column.” Los Angeles Dodgers radio broadcaster Charley Steiner has already asked for permission to critique Hoffarth’s performance on the JetHawks broadcast. A preview of the event can be found on Hoffarth’s blog: http://www.insidesocal.com/tomhoffarth/archives/2009/04/and-your-voice.html.

Despite the early game, the JetHawks Clubhouse Show will air at its regular time Wednesday afternoon at 5 PM. Bennett, in the midst of his first in-season visit to Lancaster, will join host Jeff Lasky to talk about the Astros development philosophy and the process he used to construct this year’s JetHawks team. Other guests will include JetHawks manager Wes Clements, and highly-regarded San Jose Giants prospect Buster Posey.

The JetHawks are now home for a seven-game homestand against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the San Jose Giants. Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400.
